A special thanks to Walter Paice, whose mentorship and encouragement gave me the confidence to trust my instincts and bring the design to life, and to Andrew, for simplifying the complexity of the design and painting alongside me.
Info
The Sakinah Mural is a site-specific public artwork created for one of Shepherd’s Bush’s oldest community shops, Sakinah, whose name means peace and serenity. Designed to reflect the shop’s welcoming spirit and deep local roots, the mural blends vibrant colours and organic motifs to evoke warmth, connection, and everyday joy. This project was part of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s public art initiative to transform local high streets through creativity. Beyond its visual impact, the mural fostered meaningful engagement with the community, from conversations with residents to capturing the emotional response of the shop’s owner on unveiling day.
