Info

This project explored collaborative and participatory design in a community garden setting. Over a month-long series of workshops, participants including elderly volunteers and local community members co-created tactile, visual, and environmentally informed signage for the garden. The workshops emphasized accessibility, inclusion, and creative agency, enabling participants to contribute ideas, design, and craft signs using a range of mediums such as paint, wood, and materials sourced from the garden itself. The process encouraged reflection, storytelling, and dialogue between participants and facilitators, fostering intergenerational collaboration and a sense of shared ownership over the garden space. Workshops were documented through photography and audio recordings, capturing both the creative outcomes and the engagement process. The resulting signage reflected the voices, creativity, and cultural narratives of the community, strengthening connections and inspiring requests for further collaborative projects. This work demonstrates a socially engaged approach to design, highlighting how participatory practices can transform public spaces into inclusive, meaningful, and co-created environments.
